Stem cell therapy recently hit the headlines, after reports that Formula One legend Michael Schumacher had undergone successful treatment and regained consciousness from his trauma induced coma.
Stem cells have the potential to replicate any cell in the body, meaning damaged cells and tissues can be repaired and replaced. This capability could revolutionise medicine. However, for now, issues surrounding cost and efficacy remain problematic.
That being said, Schumacher's case can't be ignored and the public attention will be welcomed by many of my connections working hard in this space to help improve treatments and save lives.
