Job description (Director of Business Development)   


Remote working position – Europe – 40% travel


If you are a strategic and confident thinker able to acquire/develop new customers and achieve revenue growth across the whole of Europe, as well as manage existing accounts then this could be the role for you. The focus of the Business Development activities is on drug substance but will also include opportunities in drug product formulation development and manufacturing, and drug discovery services (small molecules, peptides and biologics).  


Skills and Experience


  • Identification of new prospect customers in The US for contract development and manufacturing (drug substance focus) for innovators.
  • Develops meaningful prospection plan for the Territory based on various data sources and personal knowledge and network.
  • Management and negotiation of new business opportunities, in liaison with Marketing, Program management, Development teams, and other stakeholders as needed (Finance, Engineering, QA/Regulatory…).
  • Negotiates development and commercial agreements.
  • Initiates market analysis and competitor business intelligence.
  • Develops knowledge about current and future demands and needs of selected target customers.
  • Develops suitable and state-of-the-art solutions which meet customer requirements and are aligned with the organization capabilities.
  • Acts as the voice of customer within the organization and communicates appropriately to all stakeholders to avoid confusion.
  • Contributes to budget preparation and revenue forecasting.
  • Provides clear and concise analysis on the various opportunities, indicating fair probability of success and realization.
  • Establish a long-term and trust-based relationship with potential and active customers.
  • Represents organization during trade shows, events, conferences, based on agreed plan.


Minimum requirements 


  • Strong Management skills, and able to work with autonomy.
  • Mature, credible, and self-driven professional, with previous international exposure.
  • Strong sense of ownership, and ability to challenge status quo and drive discussions to the desired outcome (internally and externally).
  • Degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy (PhD preferred) or commercial training with several years of business development experience with a solid understanding of contract manufacturing.
  • Achiever focused on business growth, and meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Min. 5-10 years of experience working in a CDMO (at least 3-5 years with drug substance).
  • Sound understanding of GMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements.
  • English speaking with preference for mastery of a second language.
